My Gentleman Friend

My Gentleman Friend

I heard a woman say this to her man,
"I'm going down, 'cause you aint around."
And I said to my gentleman friend,
"Lord, you are my man, I will drown,
If you stop being around.
You are the reason I stand
Only you hold the key
To my life and to my death
In all lands

O' you are truly awesome!
You sit elevated in your Kingdom
Yet you dwell low,
Inside those who welcome
You in their hearts
To those who are able to see,
Your presence is everywhere

What a gentleman you are!
You never invade and go to war
You stand by and wait
For your children to invite you in
Where would I be if I did not know you?
I know I would be wandering
In the wilderness of humanity

And they think loving you is religious?
Oh well, then I guess I’m religious
All I know is:
Because you favor me
I worship you

You sent spiritual angels to lead me
And as I walked out of the valley
Malice stood firm on the road to distract me
But thank God for your love
You understood me
You stepped in,
You made the final call
You stretched your hand and saved me

Hey, I am so excited!
No matter what they do
No matter what they say
I am no body’s shadow
No one can erase your architectural plans for me
I KNOW YOU ARE NOT THROUGH WITH ME YET
